Past the packers

Warhawks win opener
By: Joey Schweitzer
The Lady Warhawks blew past their neighborhood rival Largo on their Opening Night Thursday. The Warhawks having 8 underclassmen on the team (4 starting) got off on the right foot to open the season. After a sputter to begin the game and allowing a run on a couple of errors in the first inning, the Ladies found their bats putting 11 runs on the Packers being capped off by a inside the park grand slam by Annie Potter (#20, Junior) in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Kayley Williams (#11, Freshman) got the start on the mound and gave up 1 run for 3 innings when being relieved by Mackenzie Duford (#5, Freshman) who didn’t allow any runs. Head coach Mark Deruzzo made sure to get everyone their deserved playing time as the game only went 5 innings with the result of the Lady Warhawks putting down the Packers 14-1. The Hawks will now prepare to play back-to-back games at Tarpon Springs (2-0) on Thursday and at East Lake on Friday (2-0)

2019 Softball preview

Young and exciting Lady Warhawks
By: Joey Schweitzer
Seminole softball is back, and the team is looking to bounce back after having an up and down year last year. The team’s future is looking to seize their potential this season with having only 3 seniors on the team and bringing on 6 freshmen. Coach Deruzzo said that this year's team will be the foundation and crucial to the program's future. One of the team’s leaders is the shortstop Annie Potter (#20, Junior) and has started almost every game as since her freshman year, last year she led the team in batting average and on base percentage. The defense will need some young talent to step up and do well if they want to keep up their reputation as a solid defense. So as the young bucks and experienced upperclassmen look to come together and prove themselves, the coaches are just as excited as us looking on the 2019 season. Coach and the team think they’re ready for their first challenge against their neighborhood rival Largo coming up on the 21st this Thursday.
